いわゆる serial commas について、

Mignon Fogarty, The Grammar Devotional: Daily Tips for Successful Writing from Grammar Girl (Henry Holt & Co, 2009, p.40)より備忘のため書き留めておきます。

Many people call it “the comma before the and,” but its formal name is the serial comma, Oxford comma, or Harvard comma. Whether to use it as I do here in the phrase red, white, and blue is a matter of great contention, but it doesn't need to be. Many people were taught they must always use the serial comma, and many other people were taught that it's an abomination, but the truth is that it's a style choice. I'm fan of the serial comma, but newspapers and magazines often leave it out to save space (when doing so doesn't cause confusion). Books and other formal works usually favor its use.

serial commas の使用の判断は style choice の問題なのですね。
